1. Auscultation of bowel sounds.
Rational: eating begins only after bowel sounds better after surgery.
2. Keep the tube feeding, check the location of the sample tube: with warm water pushed as indicated.
Rational: tube inserted surgically and usually in sewing. Originally combined with suction to reduce nausea and vomiting. The push water to maintain patency of the tube.
3. Teach the patient or the nearest self-feeding techniques, examples; the tip of the syringe, bag and funnel method, destroying food when the patient will go home with a tube of food. Reassure the patient and the nearest capable of performing this procedure before going home and that the right foods and tools available at home.
